These tube comparisons were found from
different sources on the internet. I use these as a general guide when
comparing tubes of different types. These tube "ratings" offer some
insight into what type of fidelity one can expect when using them in the
amplifier of their choice. Enjoy.............
Amperex Tubes
6DJ8 Bugle Boy:
Similar to the orange globe logo with more ambiance and larger
soundstage.
6DJ8 Holland Orange Globe:
Has a little bump in the midband which adds immediacy to this tube. A
harmonic rightness with the orange globe.
7308 Orange PQ:
Sound very similar to the Orange Globes.
7308 White PQ:
Another very good PQ. All of the PQ’s have a similar sonic character.
7308 USN:
Typically 60’s vintage. Great extension without the tizz. Liquid smooth
fabulous bass.
7308 Orange Globe USA:
More focused and palpable than the Bugle boy or A frame 6DJ8’s. Similar
to the globe Logo from Holland. 6DJ8 from Holland is very close.
6922 JAN White Label:
Very Good tube. Quiet, great speed and dynamics, and very wide
bandwidth.
6922 White Label PQ:
Warm yet lively, focused grainless and transparent. Dynamic with punchy
bass. One of the best!
6922 White Label USN:
Sounds very much like the white label PQ. May lack some of the tubes
warmth and body.
6922 White PQ Holland:
Slightly more forward mids than the US version. Otherwise….very similar.
6922 Pinched Waist White PQ:
First version ever made. An absolutely gorgeous sounding tube. Lively
transparent and detailed with extended highs but without a hint of
grain. Dynamic and punchy with liquid mids!
ECC 88 Orange label A frame:
Middle of the hall presentation with very good frequency response. Sweet
top end and mids, excellent low level detail and wide soundstage. A bit
more up front than the bugle boy. Same signature as the orange label,
just cleaner faster, and a little better in every way.
Siemens
& Halske
ECC88: Nice
dynamics and presentation. Light on the top end, good bass and
soundstage.
E88CC: Many
labeled RCA Very musical nice speed and dynamics, sweet sound with nice
ambiance.
E188CC:
Very hot tube. This tube shares a lot of traits with the Amperex 7308’s.
This is one of the finest.
E288CC:
Another classic from Germany! Very transparent, and palpable with good
bass. Very "real" sounding presentation.
CCA: Yet
another classic German tube with all of the traits of the above. May
lack a little in bass.
